Returning to work checklist
April 12th - Offices can head back to work with precautions
With 4 weeks left until many offices can begin a phased return to the workplace
Government advice to work from home wherever possible, offers two options:
-
Supporting working from home until lockdown restrictions or social distancing is relaxed
-
Facilitating a return to the workplace in line with COVID-secure workplace guidance when working from home is not possible.
TOP TIPS FOR SENDING STAFF BACK TO WORK
Stagger teams
-
Splitting staff into teams with set days in the office to minimise risk to the whole groups e.g. red team works Mon, Weds & Fri and work from home the remaining days, while the blue team does the opposite
-
A phased approach to the team coming back to the office
-
A set of different schedules to reduce occupancy in the workplacE
Use screens between desks to avoid colleagues wearing masks all day
Offer visors for anyone who has a preference over a mask
Prior to the pandemic, most offices cleaning schedules dedicate equal time to cleaning busy areas such as kitchen areas or break rooms as much as they would clean conference rooms used for one meeting. When we return, ensure cleaning is focused on the most used areas by staff
Prioritise staff in the office that have access to private transport or those who can walk/cycle to work
Give the option to staff to remain working from home if they would be more comfortable/have members of their household who are shielding
The most important part of returning to the office is to offer autonomy, flexibility & support for staff’s mental & physical health. Workplaces need to make decisions on an individual basis with their staff instead of for them.
